Neighborhood Bird Outing: Union Bay Natural Area + Burke Gilman Brewing (for young adults <40) Group size will vary. Outings occur rain or shine, though will be canceled for dangerous weather conditions. Please leave pets at home. Leaders: Next Gen Council Members: Jordan Juranke (she/her), Emi Nye (she/her), Casey Herrick (she/her) and Anthony Pangelinan (he/him) Meeting Point: 9am at the Center for Urban Horticulture parking lot E16, off NE 41st Street, one block beyond the place where Mary Gates Memorial Drive turns left to become NE 41st Bike Parking: Yes; bike rack in back of building, bring a lock. Trip Accessibility:1 (leisurely pace), B (mostly gravel trails, with some soft ground or mud), ~2 miles walking Car Parking: Yes, parking in the lot is free on Sundays. Bathrooms: There are bathrooms at the Center for Urban Horticulture only if they are open. We cannot guarantee access to bathrooms during this walk. Birders of all levels, especially beginners are welcome. Please bring binoculars, we will have a couple extra pairs. Binoculars are also available to rent from the Birds Connect Seattle storefront in Westlake. We will enjoy the park from 9-11:30am, with an optional after-walk hangout at nearby Burke Gilman Brewing around 12pm (brewery is all ages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic options for purchase, outside food ok, El Camión food truck nearby). Please try to arrive by the listed time for introductions. If late, look for a group of people holding binoculars! Join us for drinks afterwards at Burke Gilman Brewing. Rain or shine, please bring rain gear. Please leave dogs at home. Bird photography encouraged. Union Bay Natural Area, just east of the University of Washington, offers a range of habitats: wetland to forest to open fields. Likely birds this time of year include wood ducks, Bald Eagles, Gadwalls, Pied Billed Grebes, Great Blue Heron, Green Heron, Belted Kingfisher, and more! Come practice your duck identification with us!
