Neighborhood Bird Outing: Hidden trails of West Seattle/Delridge (Camp Long, Longfellow Greenspace)

Neighborhood Bird Outings are open to all with no pre-registration required. Group size will vary. Outings occur rain or shine, though will be canceled for dangerous weather conditions. Please leave pets at home. Leader: Kurt Aylup (he/him) 248-227-1407 Meet: 10 am, High Point Pond (called "Pond Park" on Google Maps), 5911 High Point Dr SW Trip Accessibility: 1-2 (leisurely to moderate pace), C (hiking trails with gentle, rolling hills), distance ~2-3 miles Onsite Bike Parking: No known bike parking locations, however there are railings/benches that may work as a spot to park a bike if needed. The West Seattle/Delridge area has several large, wooded areas with numerous trails winding through them, many of which are not particularly frequent birder destinations. One of those areas is through Longfellow Creek and nearby High Point Pond, which between the two of them includes a nice mix of habitats - a pond in an open area, dense understory, wooded trails, and clearings adjacent to said trails. This is a great place to check out what species may be migrating south during the fall. The two walks that we've done here so far both had a nice variety of species show up - we got almost 40 species here on the walk from the end of May! We'll start at Pond Park for a central meeting spot that should make potential parking spots closer (the H, 5, and 21 bus lines also stop not far from it), and then walk through some of the Longfellow Creek trails. If there's time, we might also hit Greg Davis park or some Camp Long trails.
