South side of North lot near 65th St. Limit: 12 Trip Accessibility: 1 (leisurely pace), B (mostly soft ground trails and boardwalk), ~3 miles walking Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge includes a combination of estuaries, tide flats, freshwater marshes, woodlands, and grasslands. The Nisqually Delta is a major non-coastal resting and feeding area for migrating birds and there are few places in the region better for observing them. We will walk the forest and barn trails and go as far out on the boardwalk as we care to go. This event involves several miles of walking on good, flat trails with restroom opportunities at the start and mid-way. We'll spend about 4 hours in the field. Pack snacks, lunch and water. Dress for wind and rain. Bring layers, rain gear, water and snacks. Return 12:30 – 1:30PM, depending on traffic. Travel to the site will be by BCS's new 15-passenger vanpool. Cost for the trip and vanpool are $35 per participant. The vanpool eliminates caravans of personal vehicles and offers opportunity for conversation and learning on the road.
